Our story

Established in the 1880s in the United States and Europe, we boast over 130 years of history and technological expertise. In 2013, Allegion (formerly the security division of Ingersoll Rand) was officially spun off from Ingersoll Rand and listed as an independent company on the New York Stock Exchange, becoming part of the S&P 500 index.

Many of Allegion's brands have a century-old history, such as the LCN door closer established in 1880, Bricard's invention of the world's first master key system in 1889, the Von Duprin exit device from 1908, Schlage's invention of the world's first cylindrical lock in 1909, Cisa's invention of the world's first smart card hotel lock in 1926, and Steelcraft's mass production of hollow metal doors in 1942. As we position ourselves as a pioneering brand in access control solutions, we take pride not only in having created many of the solutions in use today but also in being at the forefront of developing the innovative access control technologies of tomorrow.
